Brancusi ‘Bird’ goes for $24.5 million

“Constantin Brancusi’s marble sculpture Bird in Space sold for $24.5 million in New York in May, the highest record of the many best prices scored at auctions in the first half of the year, reported Artprice.com, a French data service.

…Pablo Picasso, whose 1905 painting Garcon a la Pipe was sold last year for $104.2 million by Sotheby’s Holdings Inc., remains the world’s best-selling artist, Artprice said in a separate report.

Andy Warhol is the second-best seller, displacing Claude Monet, who fell from the No. 2 slot in 2004 to sixth place in the first half of 2005, Artprice said.”
