“The collecting habit is a happy addiction for some beer fans, writes Willie Simpson.

For someone who makes a living out of hunting down new beers and breweries, I’m still surprised by the varying degrees of obsession that the amber nectar inspires in others. While I’m more interested in the contents of my glass and how the beer is made, there are some people who spend a lifetime collecting beer cans, bottles or labels. Others hoard different beer glasses, coasters or bottle openers and, amazingly, some of them don’t even drink beer. One guy even collects pubs. At least, he claims to have photographed, and had a beer inside, every pub in Victoria.”

…Some exceptionally rare beer-can memorabilia is Arizona-based Apache Beer. Neon beer signs are not only collectible, they are beautiful pieces of art. Lamps from breweries are magnificent and highly desirable. Barnes said an Apache Beer can circa 1930 might be worth more than $10,000. ”
