Editorial Reviews
“Drew Struzan’s talent for capturing what is both human and heroic in the face of a movie character has made him the top Hollywood film campaign artist for the past 30 years. Struzan, the last of the great poster artists, according to The Boston Globe, has created the images for some of the biggest and most successful box office hits in cinematic history, including Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Back to the Future, the complete Star Wars series, E.T., Blade Runner, Rambo, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and Hook. This compilation of his cinematic art, accompanied by text explaining his particular vision of each character, features a foreword by the director George Lucas.”

Shaun of the Dead

INTERVIEW: Director Edgar Wright

Cinema Confidential News: 09/22/04
By Thomas Chau in New York City

“It’s been a while since someone has been able to successfully blend horror and comedy together but that’s exactly what the comedy team behind the cult British show ‘Spaced’ has done.
Director Edgar Wright and star Simon Pegg bring their wacky comic styles to their very successful zombie import, ‘Shaun of the Dead.’ A romance, horror, comedy, spoof all in one, the film takes us back to George Romero’s classic zombie films and puts a new twist in the genre.”

All grown up: Comic book fans are transforming popular culture

David Kronke
Los Angeles Daily News

“Frank Miller is perhaps film’s most influential comic artist. Filmmakers cribbed relentlessly from his “Dark Knight Returns” in forming the 1989 “Batman,” and now, director Robert Rodriguez (“Once Upon a Time in Mexico,” “Spy Kids”) brought Miller on to co-direct an adaptation of his comic “Sin City,” about a violent town with a corrupt police force, starring Jessica Alba and Bruce Willis.
Rodriguez, speaking recently at San Diego’s Comic-Con International, exulted of Miller, “He was making the best movies never seen on a big screen — already drawn.”

Already, the poster is selling well on the Internet, where teen boys are finding Miller’s twisted graphic novel more accessible, thanks to Jessica Alba.
Alba, former star of TV’s ‘Dark Angel,’ plays stripper Nancy Callahan…”

Box Office News from MovieGoods – September 8th Edition

“The summer movie season ended with a huge thud over the Labor Day weekend with Hero taking the top spot with only $11.5 million in ticket sales, which is the lowest #1 weekend total of the year. Hero was also in the top spot the previous weekend.

Four new films debuted last weekend but none of them managed to make any impact. Paparazzi fared the best in fourth spot with $8 M, Wicker Park was sixth with $6 M, Vanity Fair was eighth with $6M, and The Cookout was ninth with $6 M. The comedy Without a Paddle is showing some legs by rebounding back to second spot last weekend with $9 M, finishing just ahead of Anacondas with $8 M. Without a Paddle, with a very modest production and marketing budget, has now taken in over $40 M in its three week run.

Three new films will make their theatrical debuts this coming weekend. Criminal, Cellular and Resident Evil: Apocalypse are all opening on Friday. The smart money is on the Resident Evil sequel to top the charts come Monday morning.”
