“Box Office News:

For the third consecutive weekend, Shark Tale was the number one film in theatres. The Dreamworks animated comedy added another $22 million to its take to hold on to the top spot last weekend. Shark Tale has now taken in over $120 M in total in three weeks.

Friday Night Lights remained in the runner-up position for the second week with $13 M. The much-hyped Team America: World Police was a disappointment in its first weekend, taking in just $12 M and finishing in third spot. Most box-office watchers expected Team America to debut at the top but the dark comedy failed to live up to expectations. The Richard Gere – Jennifer Lopez romantic comedy Shall We Dance debuted in fourth spot last weekend with $11 M in ticket sales. Rounding out the top 5 was Ladder 49 with $9 M.

Overall, the top 12 films last weekend earned $89 M, which was down 8% from the previous weekend, and down 13% from the same weekend in 2003.

A light new release schedule for this coming weekend, as Surviving Christmas and The Grudge are the only new films to open in wide release. Also opening in very limited release this weekend are Sideways and The Machinist.
