Oscar Winners for 2005

Filed under: — site admin @ 10:40 pm

Although The Aviator walked with the most Oscars (5), it was Clint Eastwood and Million Dollar Baby that grabbed the top awards and the spotlight. Best Picture, Best Director for Clint Eastwood, Best Actress to Hilary Swank (her second Oscar), and a long overdue Oscar to Morgan Freeman as Best Supporting Actor.

Martin Scorsese, although having been nominated for 7 Oscars in his career, has yet to pull down a Best Director award.

Jamie Foxx, a favorite to take the best actor Oscar for “Ray,” had the most memorable acceptance speech of the night.

..and my personal favorite movie of the year, The Incredibles took away the best animated motion picture.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Filed under: — site admin @ 12:08 am

After first being introduced to Douglas Adams one night way back in 1982 while flipping through my limited selection of non-cable TV channels, I became hooked on the TV series based on The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. I went on to read all his books and still love his quirky and cynical humour.

This film project began 5 years ago and hit a snag with Adams untimely death at the age of 49 in 2001. Filming on the project actually began last year in April of 2004.

As Greg Dean Schmitz at Greg’s Previews reports:

“4/20/04 – Filming did indeed get started yesterday, with the news of the first character created just for this movie, a religious cult leader played by John Malkovich. The standard rules of “introducing new characters for the movie” (generally perceived as a bad thing) don’t really apply here because Douglas Adams himself wrote the script, and he established 20+ years ago a standard of changing things about a bit each time, as he wrote this adventure for radio, books, and TV. It’s not surprising he did it for the movie too.”

Let’s hope the movie proves to be a legacy that would make Douglas Adams proud…

From Yahoo! Movies, the cast list:

Martin Freeman (Arthur Dent), Mos Def (Ford Prefect), Zooey Deschanel (Trillian), Bill Nighy (Slartibartfast), Sam Rockwell (Zaphod Beeblebrox), Warwick Davis (Marvin the Paranoid Robot), John Malkovich (Humma Kavula), Steve Pemberton (Mr. Prosser), Stephen Fry (The Book), Alan Rickman (voice of Marvin)

Oscar Turns Film Collectibles Into Gold

PRESS RELEASE:

Americans love the Oscars and movie memorabilia from Oscar winning films can be very valuable. Learn about this fascinating facet of collecting, from props to movie posters to autographs, with House of Collectibles’ The Official Price Guide to Movie Autographs and Memorabilia.

(PRWEB) February 11, 2005 — What is the value of Oscar? The Academy Award is the ultimate symbol of success in the film industry, the pinnacle of achievement for a motion picture. When a film receives an Oscar, the value for props, costumes and other memorabilia is greatly increased. According to Daniel Cohen, author of The Official Price Guide to Movie Autographs & Memorabilia, Oscar-winning stars and films can turn your average film collectible into a treasure. “Film collectibles like movie posters, screen-used props and wardrobe and even autographed photographs depicting stars in Oscar-winning performances can command much higher prices because of the Academy Award tie-in.”

For example, Julie Andrews’ linen skirt and cotton blouse worn in the 1966 Best Picture “The Sound Of Music” sold for $16,000, while a dress worn by Andrews from a lesser-known role might be purchased for a few hundred dollars.

The Official Price Guide to Movie Autographs and Memorabilia lists long-term and future values on movie props and wardrobe, celebrity autographs, posters and lobby cards, animation art, movie scripts and even Oscar statuettes from the 1920′s to today. This is THE resource for information and values for highly desirable movie star autographs, including Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Judy Garland and today’s top actors and actresses.

A complete introduction to the field of collecting, The Official Price Guide to Movie Autographs and Memorabilia includes a dealer directory and list of clubs, organizations and publications, as well as a glossary of autograph terminology. This guide offers the most up-to-date prices on these highly sought after pieces, as well as advice from author Daniel Cohen, the leading expert on autographs and movie memorabilia.

The Official Price Guide to Movie Autographs and Memorabilia is a journey through the history and diversity of film collectibles. In addition to over 300 black and white photographs, this resource includes a full-color insert showcasing some of the most desirable memorabilia, such as a “Gone with the Wind” script signed by the cast and a rare Mickey Mouse watch. The comprehensive price lists and complete industry information ensure that this is THE essential price guide for collectors of movie autographs and memorabilia.

House of Collectibles’ books are available on Amazon.com.

About the author: Daniel Cohen has been a passionate collector and dealer of all types of entertainment-related collectibles for over 20 years.
