Summertime is quickly approaching and that means that movie blockbuster time will also be here. The Summer 2005 movie season will unofficially kick-off with the upcoming May release of Star Wars Episode III.

This summer appears to have a very strong list of blockbuster flicks on the menu (and best of all – there is no Catwoman 2 on the release schedule!). War of the Worlds: Tom Cruise, Steven Spielberg and aliens – how can this not be a huge hit? The trailers for this film have been creating buzz since the Super Bowl, even though there have been no shots of aliens in any of the promos. Cruise stars as a single father trying to protect his daughter (Dakota Fanning) from a Martian invasion in New Jersey. Expect some outstanding special effects in this one. War of the Worlds opens on June 29th.

Fantastic Four: based on the classic comic book series, Fantastic Four tells the story of four astronauts that gain superpowers after exposure to cosmic radiation. The four then team up to battle against friend-turned-megalomaniac Victor Von Doom. Michael Chiklis, Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans and Jessica Alba star as the Fantastic Four but the special effects will be the real stars of this movie. Hits theatres on July 8th.

Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith: the long-awaiting final film in George Lucas’ trilogy already has fans lined up for the premiere on May 19th. Star Wars fans everywhere can’t wait to see how Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) moves to the dark side as Darth Vadar.
