Saw 2 Movie Poster Severed Finger Controversy

Filed under: — site admin @ 8:41 pm

Saw 2Apparently, there’s some controversy over this version of the advance poster for Saw 2. As reported by Josh Grossberg on Yahoo! News yesterday:

“The Motion Picture Association of America has given a thumbs down to the poster for the upcoming slice-and-dice horror sequel Saw II featuring severed fingers as the Roman numerals. The film’s distributor had already sent out an advance poster, or one-sheet, with the graphic image to online media.

…If that wasn’t bad enough, the MPAA says that some Websites were selling the unauthorized poster.”

Ooops, you might be able to find one here still:

Weekend Box Office August 12 – 14, 2005

Filed under: — site admin @ 10:06 pm

Four BrothersThe new drama Four Brothers debuted last weekend as the new #1 film. Four Brothers took in $21.1 million, which amounts to about $5 M per brother. The Skeleton Key, a new horror flick starring Kate Hudson, did respectable business in its debut weekend with $16 M and a second place finish.

Also opening last weekend was Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo with $10 M and a fifth place finish. This total was short of the $12.2 M debut for the first Deuce Bigalow film back in 1999. With the continued success of
Wedding Crashers and this weekend’s opening of The 40 Year Old Virgin, the raunchy comedy marketplace seemed to ignore Deuce 2.

Elsewhere, March of the Penguins continues its march forward as one of the top documentaries of all-time, adding another $7 M in ticket sales last weekend. The Dukes of Hazzard fell sharply 58% in its second week of release.

Summer is winding down but there are still lots of new films opening up. New in theatres this coming weekend are:
Red-Eye, Supercross,
The 40 Year Old Virgin and Valiant.

Last weekend’s full top 10 was as follows:

1) Four Brothers – $21 M
2) The Skeleton Key – $16 M
3) The Dukes of Hazzard – $13 M
4) Wedding Crashers – $12 M
5) Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo – $10 M
6) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – $7 M
7) March of the Penguins – $7 M
8) Sky High – $6 M
9) Must Love Dogs – $5 M
10) Fantastic Four – $3 M
