Richard Gere plays writer/scam artist Clifford Irving, who almost pulled off one of the most brazen media scams in history, when his Howard Hughes “autobiography” was published. Irving claimed that his book was based on in-person interviews with the reclusive billionaire, but which in fact turned out to be completely bogus.
