Stephen King scored his best debut ever for an adaptation of one his stories, as 1408 snagged the number two spot at the box office over the weekend of June 22 to 25, 2007.

John Cusack plays a skeptical horror novelist (imagine that) who has had a string of bestsellers discrediting paranormal events in the most infamous haunted houses and graveyards around the world.

But that’s about to change when he checks into room 1408 despite the warnings of the hotel manager (Samuel L. Jackson).

Mikael Hafstrom also directed the 2005 thriller “Derailed” with Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston.
