George Clooney directs and stars in this romantic comedy that opened this weekend on April 4, 2000.
Set in the early days of pro football, Clooney plays Dodge Connolly, a charming, brash football hero who is determined to guide his team from bar brawls to packed stadiums. But after the players lose their sponsor and the entire league faces certain collapse, Dodge convinces a college football star and war hero, Carter Rutherford (John Krasinski) to join his ragtag ranks. The captain hopes his latest move will help the struggling sport finally capture the country’s attention.
The love interest for the two teammates is Renee Zellweger, who plays Lexie Littleton, a spitfire newswoman who thinks that the new football star is too good to be true, and suspects there are holes in Carter’s war story.
