In an article from Reuters, “Director Andrew Stanton, who won an Academy Award for Pixar’s most lucrative film, “Finding Nemo,” said he wanted to show a future in which people had lost track of what matters in life. …The film’s references to current hot-button issues — the environment, obesity and corporate greed — were a coincidence, Stanton said, because he conceived the premise in 1994 with the idea of reviving the science-fiction films he loved as a boy.”

The Manhattan girls smoked the box office this weekend, as “Sex and The City: The Movie” raked up $56 million and took the number one spot away from “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull“. Driven by a predominately female audience, as an “R” rated movie it got the fifth best opening, and the best opening ever for a live-action adaptation of a TV series, beating Mission: Impossible’s $45 million opening.
