Max Payne number one at the box office

Max Payne” won the box office this past weekend, as Marky Mark (Mark Wahlberg) had his all-time seventh-best opening with this video game to film adaptation, despite less then stellar reviews and a 16 percent fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes (ouch!).

Weighing in with $16.7 million, Max Payne knocked off last weekend’s box office champ, “Beverly Hills Chihuahua“, which landed in second place. With an impressive per theater average of $6,617 and a total of just over $10.5 million, “The Secret Life of Bees” was a surprise hit in third place, while Oliver Stone’s portrait of George W. Bush’s legacy, “W” finished the weekend in fourth place with a close $10.5 million.

The only other new release to make the top ten was “Sex Drive“, which faltered out of the gate with just over $3.6 million.
