“The ball that Babe Ruth hit for his last home run at Yankee Stadium fetched $86,250 at an auction in Atlanta, according to organizers.

An unidentified buyer purchased the ball, according to a spokesman for Memory Lane Inc., the company which conducted the sale. The auction ended late Thursday.

Bob Balthazar, the former owner who is retired and living in north Georgia, said he was happy with the price the ball brought. Balthazar was 15 when he and his father came up with the ball hit by Ruth off Walter Johnson in an exhibition at Yankee Stadium on Aug. 23, 1942.”
