“NEW YORK — A draft of what became known as the Balfour Declaration – a key document in the foundation of Israel – was sold at auction for nearly $900,000 at Sotheby’s in New York on Thursday.
The item was bought for $884,000 by an anonymous private collector who was bidding over the telephone through a Sotheby’s representative.
The document, written on hotel stationary, is the only known surviving handwritten draft.”
