“In the Golden Age of Carnival, ball invitations weren’t just pieces of paper; they were works of art. Now Tulane University is auctioning off dozens of these rare treasures, along with other paper Mardi Gras collectibles.

…Schindler predicts that winning bids will be in the neighborhood of $100 to $300 for dance cards, $300 to $500 for invitations and $200 to $500 for bulletins.

…As far as Schindler is concerned, Mardi Gras paper artifacts from the Golden Age represent a high point in the history of American design. The New Orleans artists who created them are mostly unsung.”
