Marilyn Monroe Playboy Issue

Going through the emails from our readers, one writes:

I have quite a few old old playboy books, one has Marilynn Munroe in it which I undertand is worth money. I want to sell the entire collection but I want to get my “monies worth” so to speak. Any ideas?

Off the bat, we would have to say that listing them on eBay will probably give you the true market value. Of course, it’s probably wise to spell her name correctly in the description. From the email, it’s hard to say which issue the reader has.

A good indication was a recent listing on ebay:
A “good condition”, not mint, 1st issue, 1st edition of Playboy published in Dec.1953 featuring a “gorgeous” first ever color nude photo of Marilyn Monroe.

This one failed to meet the reserve, but received a high bid of US $2,132.00.

One that did sell had the short description of:
1ST ISSUE PLAYBOY 1953 MAGAZINE WITH MARILYN MONROE FEATURES AND COMPLETE PAGES GREAT SHAPES MAGAZINE.” hmmm.
It had 28 bids and went for US $1,225.00 .
