“NEW YORK (AFP) – Buyers eager to grab a slice of New York history sent prices soaring past their estimates at an auction of items from the city’s legendary Plaza Hotel, ranging from monogrammed slippers to a Steinway baby grand piano.
The six-hour marathon sale saw 350 lots go under the hammer at Christie’s in Manhattan and realised 1.76 million dollars — more than double the pre-sale prediction.”
