19th century weathervane sells for $1.2 million at N.H. auction

“WOONSOCKET, R.I. – A copper weathervane that sat atop a Rhode Island train depot for nearly a century has been sold at a New Hampshire auction for one-point-two million dollars. It is believed to be a record price for an American weathervane.

The sculpture, in the shape of a locomotive, is five-feet long and 17 inches high and topped the Woonsocket train depot from 1882 to 1971. The weathervane was removed from the building after the depot was sold.”
