“PARIS (AFP) – A Gabonese tribal mask was sold at auction here Saturday for 5.9 million euros (7.5 million dollars, including fees), a record price for tribal art. The 48-centimetre (19-inch) wooden Ngil mask, made by the migratory Fang people in the form of a stylised face finished in white kaolin clay, was bought for exactly 5,904,176 euros by an anonymous bidder.”
