“They hold the franchise record for the best season in Boston Red Sox history with a 105-47 record.
They were led by Smoky Joe Wood, whose 34-5 record, 1.91 earned run average and 10 shutouts constitute the greatest one-season performance by a Red Sox pitcher.
Next week, a trophy the team earned for winning the 1912 World Series will go on the auction block in New York City.”
