Collector’s Corner by Arnold Bailey
“When Hall’s Nostalgia starts the bidding Friday night in Arlington, Mass., for its 280th public auction, collectors will have a chance to bid on a massive array of 392 lots of sports cards and memorabilia. Hall’s are the longest-running, continuing series of sports auctions in the region, and this time the treasures include autographed artifacts, vintage cards and some unusual items.”
Some of the highlights Mr. Bailey mentions:
– a $352,000 winning bid on a Walter Johnson Washington Senators jersey
– A Little Pretty Pocket Book with the first appearance of the word “base-ball” in print authored by John Newberry and printed in 1787 sold for $19,000
– $21,405 for a Gerry Cheevers goalie’s mask
– $191,200 for a baseball autographed by Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe
