Action Comics #1 Auction
The most sought after comic book off all time is up for auction on eBay this week – Action Comics #1. Reportedly, this is the finest copy known to exist, out of an estimated 30 unrestored copies.
A CGC grade of 9.0 puts it on par with a copy that was previously owned by Nicolas Cage, with the difference being that this copy has perfect white pages, compared to Cage’s copy which had cream to off white pages. That Action Comics #1 sold for a record $2.1 million dollars at auction three years ago in 2011.
The book was originally purchased off the newstand in 1938 and then was stored in what is described as “near ideal” conditions for almost 40 years in a cedar chest in West Virginia, at which point it was purchased by a dealer during an estate sale. The current owner (and fourth), Darren Adams of Pristine Comics in Washington has kept the book stored in a climate controlled vault for the past several years.
As of this writing, the bids on the book are currently sitting at US $1,750,200.00, but it is easily expected that it will surpass 3 million dollars. Bidding ends on August 24, 2014, so if you have a few million in loose change in your pockets, check out the action here.
We will update this post once the final amount is known.
Stay tuned!
