1977 Topps Star Wars Trading Cards

Non-sports trading cards are showing a boom in 2025:

With some blockbuster auction results, non-sports cards are cementing their position as one of the fastest-growing segments in the hobby with Star Wars, Pokémon, One Piece, and Disney cards leading the way.

In this article we are looking specifically at the 1977 Topps Star Wars Cards which are considered the blue-chip franchise of non-sports cards, and the market value has seen massive appreciation, particularly for cards in top condition. The 1977 Topps Star Wars set (Series 1, Blue Border) is arguably the most iconic non-sports card set of all time, giving it a strong position similar to blue-chip sports rookie cards. The cards feature notorious dark blue borders that easily show damage, chipping, and wear, which makes achieving Gem Mint (PSA 10) condition exceptionally difficult, driving scarcity and, therefore, immense value for high-grade copies.

A 1977 Topps ‘Star Wars’ Luke Skywalker sold in October 2025 by Heritage Auctions for a record $268,400 (PSA 10 (Gem Mint). The iconic “Rookie Card” and set starter. Only 9 copies graded PSA 10.)

Some other notable cards in this series:

  • #7 The Villainous Darth Vader PSA 10 (Gem Mint) The main villain; one of only 5 PSA 10 copies. $48,000 (Nov 2023)
  • #4 Space Pirate Han Solo PSA 10 (Gem Mint) Harrison Ford’s character card. $37,790 (Approximate high-end value)
  • #5 Princess Leia Organa PSA 10 (Gem Mint) Carrie Fisher’s character card. $50,002 (Approximate high-end value)
  • #1 Luke Skywalker PSA 9 (Mint) The most common Mint grade for the top card. $3,493 – $5,000 (Recent sales range)

Keep an eye out for these as well:

The Error Card: The #207 C-3PO “Golden Rod” Error (from Series 4 Green Border) features an infamous print error that was quickly corrected. It is highly sought after by collectors and commands a significant premium over the corrected version.

Stickers: Each pack included a sticker insert. Due to the fact that kids often peeled and used them, finding the stickers in high, unpeeled grades is difficult. A PSA 10 copy of the Luke Skywalker sticker #1 sold for $57,600 in 2023.

Finally, here are some notable sales from eBay for Star Wars trading cards:

  • 1977 Star Wars Topps #4 Space Pirate HAN SOLO – PSA 10 Gem Mint $28,000.00 Nov 17, 2025
  • 1977 Topps Star Wars Princess Leia Organa #5 PSA 10 GEM MT $10,850.00 May 11, 2025
