Bottle seekers ‘privy’ to glass secrets

“When David Fassinger wants to find antique glass bottles, he doesn’t have to search faraway beaches.
Instead, he seeks his treasures in buried Pennsylvania outhouses. Earlier generations typically discarded glass containers in their privies.
Fassinger, a Collier resident, has used a steel probe to find former outhouses about five feet underground so he could dig up Civil War-era flasks in Washington County. His collection of antique bottles numbers more than 200, retrieved from a variety of places.”
