“Local gauge collector creates museum to show pieces.
Barry David brought a full-size caboose home two years ago. He had the 45,000-pound, 1967 train car plopped down in his Newton backyard while his wife warily watched.
…In the past 20 years, David has been researching antique steam gauges and the vehicles they came from. Slowly collecting them first from antique stores and steam shows and now from eBay, David said they run from $50 for a small gauge with no markings to $4,000 for a larger, older and more distinctly marked one.
The markings are what David looks for. On the front of the gauge, many have the model name, maker and year. The more information the better, he said.”
