Heritage Auctions is currently auctioning off this CGC NM 9.4 copy of Captain America Comics #1 San Francisco Pedigree (Timely, 1941) which they describe as one of the best copies ever seen to date and one of the most sought after comics in the comic collecting realm.
An almost flawless copy, it has been identified as coming from from the storied San Francisco Pedigree collection which collectors rank as one of the top pedigrees, perhaps only behind the Edgar Church/Mile High hoard.
This Jack Kirby and Joe Simon creation features one of the most infamous covers ever produced with Adolph Hitler on the cover and of course is the first appearance of Captain America, Bucky and the Red Skull.
As of this writing, the current bid is a mouth-watering $1,725,000 (2.1 million with buyers premium) USD with the auction ending on April 7, 2022 – we will be checking back tomorrow to check the final bid.
UPDATE: April 8, 2022
Wow – the winning bid was $3,120,000 USD (with Buyers Premium). That figure must place this copy in the top ten most expensive comics ever sold joining books such as Action Comics #1 and Amazing Fantasy #15.
