“MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ – The VERY moment when Germany had just unconditionally surrendered, the confirmation of that historic moment was immediately forwarded from the European theater of war to the Pentagon-Military Intelligence Division. The method of transfer during this historic moment in time was by ticker tape. The very first transmission, an approximate six-inch-by-two-inch section of tape, signified the end of the European War which Germany had started.

Moments after the tape arrived at the Pentagon the Generals were notified and then the President of the United States was subsequently contacted and given the information. This information was so sensitive that the public was not given this history-changing news until approximately one week later.”
