“Robert Olen Butler, the Pulitzer Prize-winning fiction writer, is a collector.
…Postcards are the third most popular collectible in the world, Butler explains, after stamps and coins (in the United States, baseball cards push postcards to perhaps the fourth spot). He has an entire sub-selection he calls ‘quotidian horror’ – cheesy motel rooms and shopping malls, prefab houses and trailer parks – images, he says, that evoke ‘the terror of Thursday afternoons in obscure places where nothing seems to be going on.”
