“Some books are too good to read, and those were the kind that came to San Francisco on Friday.
…Often it’s not the books themselves but their dust jackets that are too good to read, said bookseller Dave Meeker of Sacramento. Many rare books are rare only because they still have their dust jackets on them.
“Ninety percent of the value is in the dust jacket,” Meeker said. “Sometimes I think we’re not selling books, we’re selling dust jackets.” ”
