“Searching for antiques can take collectors and dealers near and far in the hunt for the perfect treasure.
The key is to look everywhere, Charles Peel said. “We go to auctions, estate sales, flea markets, other antiques shops, and antiques fairs. “There are yard sales, church rummage sales, and street fairs. We also have people come in and sell us stuff, and we buy and sell on eBay.”
…”This was the type of shop my wife wouldn’t go into,” Peel said, laughing. “I walked into the back of the shop and there was a roll of travel posters that still had the pin holes in the top. I thought they were from the 1940s or ’50s. The shop owner wanted $75 for the lot of 12 posters.
“My wife didn’t want me to buy them, but I did anyway. I learned they were worth $250 to $350 each. I’ve sold several of them. As soon as I put them out in the store, they sell. The older the posters are, the more they’re worth.” ”
