“British Museum Purchases Shang Dynasty Vessel at NY Auction

NEW YORK (AP) — A rare bronze wine vessel from the late Shang Dynasty was purchased at auction for $8.1 million by a British museum, the auction house said.

Compton Verney, a museum outside Stratford-upon-Avon, England, placed the winning bid at Sotheby’s New York auction galleries on Tuesday. The vessel had a pre-sale estimate of $2 million to $3 million.”
